3. Campaign tracker terminology, definitions and landing page URL generator variables reference

Campaign Tracker works by creating custom landing page URLs which contain tracking information. In order to make the best use of online advertisement tracking, you should aim to fill out as many fields as possible. This page provides an overview and descriptions of each of the fields.

Campaign-Specific Details

Project Name: The name of your tracemyip.org project that contains your currently selected campaign tracker.

Campaign Status: Determines the operation of the Campaign Tracker. You can set it to [inactive] to suspend logging until you reactivate it again.

Cost Per Click: The average amount it costs you when a user clicks on one of your ads in this Campaign Tracker. It is used to calculate and manage your total advertising expenses.

Conversion Page String: The text that, when found in a URL, will trigger the user's status as converted. This could be the URL of a thank you or receipt page. It could also be a certain string that's appended to a web page once the user has made their purchase. The field is not required for JavaScript codes.

Landing Page URL: The base URL of your landing page - the page to which you want users to be sent to upon clicking your ad.

Landing Page-Specific Details

Campaign Provider: The service you are using to distribute your advertisements. If you choose one of the listed providers, tracemyip.org will automatically fill in fields (like user search query) and hide those. You can choose Custom/Other if your provider is not listed here.

Campaign Source: The name of your campaign provider. This is shown only if you chose Custom/Other for the Campaign Provider.

Campaign ID: The identification string of your campaign. It should remain the same across all landing pages in the current Campaign Tracker. Ex: "My Sock Store"

Group ID: The identification string of your campaign group/subgroup. Ex: "White socks"

Ad ID: The identification string of the particular ad for which you're generating a landing page. Ex: "White crew socks - medium"

Medium Type: The form in which your advertisement is displayed. You can choose one of the presets (Pay Per Click, Banner, Feed, Email, or Affiliate) or enter your own (Ex: "classifieds")

Keyword: The term that triggers your ad. These are keywords that you bid on in your campaign provider's interface.

Network Type: Where your ad is found - on a search results listing ("Search") or on someone's website ("Content").

Match Type: The type of match between the visitor's search keywords and your paid keywords. (This can only be a variable*)

Distribution: The primary advertiser. It can be the campaign provider's company (i.e. "google") or "content".

Query String: The search terms that your visitor typed which led them to finding your ad. (This can only be a variable*)

Source Domain: The external website on which your ad is found.

* Use variable: If you choose one of the presets for Campaign Provider, tracemyip.org can automatically fill on some fields. Some of these fields are dynamically changed. For example, Microsoft adCenter has a variable for the Query String called {QueryString}. Whenever Microsoft adCenter sees {keywords}, it substitutes this string with the actual keywords the user searched for. All available variables are automatically filled in for preset campaign providers; contact your campaign provider regarding variables if you are using one that's not preset.
