Is an upgrade a tax deductible expense?

Yes, any amount you pay for your account is tax deductible and can help you save money in both short and long term subscriptions. The following is the basic tax deduction criteria:

  • You reside in the US or any other country that allows deduction of expenses pertained to a business
  • You use your visitor tracker account as a business expense to improve or maintain your business operations
  • You capitalize on the business operations you conduct
  • You file an appropriate government forms at the end of the year
  • You can deduct the cost of a business expense if it meets the criteria of ordinary and necessary and it is not a capital expense.
Note regarding a prepayment law in the US. You generally cannot deduct expenses in advance, even if you pay them in advance. This rule applies to both the cash and accrual methods. It applies to prepaid interest, prepaid insurance premiums, and any other expense paid far enough in advance to, in effect, create an asset with a useful life extending substantially beyond the end of the current tax year. Therefore you can deduct the payment that equals the term of your currently filed tax returns.
